ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on National Food Security and Research was told Tuesday that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the National Agriculture Research Council (NARC) had given false statements before the Supreme Court and the Prime Minister’s Secretariat just to grab the precious 1,400 hectares of land, originally belonged to a third party. The committee meeting, presided over by Senator Muzaffar Hussain, was told that the land in question was actually owned by the Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC). It was told that the CDA had submitted an application with the top court seeking withdrawal of the case.
On the recommendations of Senator Mushahidullah Khan, the committee suggested that a privilege motion might be moved in the Senate against CDA chairman and other officials concerned for making false claims before the apex court and PM’ Secretariat.
The committee directed Islamabad Mayor Sheikh Ansar Aziz to visit the NARC to resolve the matter. Present at the meeting, the mayor told the committee that he submit a report on the matter before the committee as soon as possible. The committee was also told Rs 0.3 million was paid to a lawyer for perusal of the case.
