Efforts on to make capital crime-free

Author: By Zafar Malik

ISLAMABAD: IG Islamabad Police, Tariq Masood Yasin, has launched various people friendly and welfare oriented projects for police employees to turn dream of making Islamabad crime-free into a reality.

He has started the Islamabad Capital Territory Police (ICT) POL COM project aimed at computerising all the records of the police stations in the federal capital and giving the citizens access to the record.

All the reports, progress in FIRs, final challans and details of convictions of the accused will be placed in POL COM in respect of all registered cases. No one will be entitled to make any change in this record and the POL COM will be monitored through the IT system.

The project has taken one month and 17 days for its completion and is being computerised on a fast track basis. IT experts have launched work on another project as well. Under this project if some citizen lodges complaint against any one at any police station, the applicant, the IG police and all police officers will be informed through SMS as soon the case is registered with reference to the said application.

The plaintiff, IG Police, SSP operation and all the officers will be informed from time to time about the progress of the case. No aspect of the case will be kept secret. No one will be able to block the progress of the case through corruption and favouritism.

Police sources said that the crimes graph could decline unless the “Jugga” system at the police stations is reined in. With the eradication of the “Jugga” system criminals will stand eliminated and the corrupt police officers will stand exposed automatically.

The launch of this project has caused embarrassment among corrupt police officers as no proceedings in the police stations are being kept secret and this way all their tactics for minting money are being blunted.
