AGPR stops compensation funds to LERP

Author: Staff Report

KARACHI: Accountant General Pakistan Revenue (AGPR) has stopped payment of Rs 594.73 million for Lyari Expressway Resettlement Project (LERP) on the pretext of non-transparency in the distribution of funds.

LERP has also deposited a cheque of Rs 125 million in Sindh High Court (SHC) for 1360 affected families of Liaquatabad, but due to non clearance by AGPR the treasury is unable to pay the said amount to the affectees.

The affectees belong to Bhangorai Goth, Qureshi Colony, and Bhandani Colony of district central. It should be noted that some five kilometer portion of Lyrai Expressway in district west is still not vacated from encroachers and leased owners. The areas are Mianwali Colony and Hasan Village.

There are 550 affected families and the amount required for compensation is around Rs 471.4 million. An official of LERP said the government has formed a high level committee to look after the matter and release compensation money in a transparent manner.

The Committee is headed by Commissioner while deputy commissioners of east, west and central districts are its members. The project director of LERP is the secretary of the committee.

Newly appointed project director Agha Perveez said the affectees would be paid soon as we have received funds and the vacated land would be handed over to FWO for development work.

“Lyari Expressway would be completed from Tower to Sohrab Goth by the end of this year,”
he added.
