Universities’ staff to launch protest against retired academicians

KARACHI: the Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) has threatened to launch a protest campaign and observe boycott of academic activities from October 15th for the removal of the retired officers.

FAPUASA Sindh Chapter’s president Dr Shahnawaz Talpur said a large number of officers, who got retired many years ago, have been inducted into the province’s educational institutions, which is a sheer violation of the Supreme Court’s orders in this regard.

He said the association has given higher authorities the deadline of October 15th to remove all such officers; otherwise a big protest campaign will be launched throughout the province.

Meanwhile, sources told this correspondent that Pro Vice-Chancellor of Liaquat University of Medical Health & Science (LUMS) Prof. Dr. Muneer Ahmed Junejo is a retired officer and he is holding the charge of acting vice chancellor of the university.

After his retirement, his tenure was extended for four years. Similarly, the sources added, Dr Roshan Ali Bhatti, a retired officer of Sindh government, has been appointed as the registrar of the university.

Moreover, Consultant Planning and Development Qazi Omer Memon, Director Finance Hina Talpur, and Controller Dr Muhammad Akram Shaikh are among the fifteen retired officers working in the university on contractual basis in violation of the orders of the SC.

The sources said that Mehran University of Engineering and Technology’s Khairpur Campus’ Pro VC Ghulam Sarwar Kandhar is also a retired officer and has been appointed on contractual basis. Also, Nadir Ali Khuwaja, a retired officer, is serving as the principal of Mehran University Higher Secondary Public School.

Sindh University’s Naushehro Feroze campus’s Pro VC Nawaz Narejo is also a retired officer, while retired Prof Dr Anwar Ali Shah is serving as the Pro VC of the university’s Dadu campus. Director Institute of Sindhology Jamshoro Ishaque Samejo is also a retired officer.

Sindh Madresatul Islam University’s director finance Ghulam Ali Suriho, a retired officer, was appointed on contractual basis many years back and he is still occupying that post. Besides, retired Prof Mehar Bux Makhejani and Ramesh Jethmalani are still working on contractual basis.
