ISI wins praise of Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani

ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani on Thursday praised the country’s top intelligence agency for foiling the nefarious designs of the enemy.

He was talking to Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Director General Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar who called on the chairman to give a briefing on the country’s security situation in the wake of recent geo-strategic developments.

Sources in Senate Secretariat said the ISI DG was invited to brief the Senate committee on Wednesday, but he could not attend the in-camera session due to his engagements. They added that the general had informed the Senate chairman that he would brief the committee next time.

The ISI DG assured the Senate chairman that he is ready to brief the Upper House on the latest developments and Pakistan’s internal security, sources disclosed. Lt Gen Akhtar also briefed the chairman about the steps taken by the ISI for the country’s security, intelligence-based operations and combing operations, sources told.

The top intelligence agency chief said that his institution has lot of respect for parliament and they are ready to answer any question.

Sources said that Raza Rabbani praised the role of ISI in national and internal security and said that in present circumstances the role of intelligence agencies has increased to foil the enemy’s nefarious designs.
