Sir: Kochi is derived from a Pashto word ‘Koch’ meaning migration that is used for Afghan nomads. One surely gets amazed to discover about the Kochi families who reside in tents on any suitable land they find in Pakistan or in Afghanistan. They are neither judged as internally-displaced persons nor refugees but are locally called Pawanda and Kadwal – a Pakhtun tribe.
The Kochi family spent their whole life in travelling, in autumn in Pakistan, spring in Afghanistan and they follow it every year. According to the UN report, around two million Kochis migrate annually.
This is really a pity to know about such a lifestyle that is full of hardships. The Kochi always moves with the good weather with their livestock. They have goat-cow milk, ghee, yogurt, wool for survival.
These people have neither land to call their own nor any nationality of either any country. This is one of most serious problems that no government bothers to address.
