ROME: Mauro Icardi captain has extended his contract with Inter Milan until June 2021, the Serie A giants said on Friday, disappointing some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

The Argentine, who has hit 58 goals in 114 games in all competitions since joining Inter in 2013, has reportedly pocketed a salary increase to 5.5 million euros ($6.1 million) a year making him the third highest paid player in Italy’s top flight after Gonzalo Higuain of Juventus and Roma’s Daniele De Rossi.

Wanda Nara, his wife and agent, had said that the 23-year-old Icardi was being chased by Juventus, Napoli, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain. Icardi is in a particularly rich vein of form, smashing six goals in Serie A so far this season to top the scoring charts along with fellow Argentine Higuain and AC Milan’s Carlos Bacca.
