At a time when the entire Muslim world and human rights organisations are condemning Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Indian government for its anti-Muslim Citizen Amendment Act, singer Adnan Sami has come out in support of the controversial bill.

The new amendment act seeks to grant Indian citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Parsi and Christian migrants, except Muslims from the neighbouring countries.

Actors Alia Bhatt, Kangana Ranaut, Sonakshi Sinha and Farhan Akhtar are among the B-town celebrities who have raised their voice against the law. Adnan Sami who had received Indian nationality in 2016, spoke out in support of the controversial bill in a post on Twitter.

“The CAB Bill is for religions that are being persecuted in ‘Theocratic States’. Muslims are NOT persecuted for their religion in Pakistan, Afghanistan or Bangladesh cause they are in majority over there. Muslims CAN still apply for Indian citizenship like before. All are welcome through the legal ‘Front Door’!,” Sami tweeted.

He added, “Much to your disappointment, Muslims are very proud and happy here.”
