Sarwar committed to raise Kashmir issue in UK, Europe

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former Punjab governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar has announced a campaign to advocate the right to self-determination for Kashmiris by meeting the parliamentary officials of Britain and the European Union (EU).

“I am starting my campaign in the UK and Europe from today (Saturday) in order to unveil the brutality of India in Kashmir,” the PTI leader said, adding that voices against Indian oppression would rise from Europe while India would be pressurized to behave as per the UN resolutions. He said India could not suppress the voice of people by using guns and torture.

Commenting on the foreign policy of Pakistan, Sarwar said that the country unfortunately had no foreign minister, which showed the government’s apathy toward the solution of core issues. He said that India often blames Pakistan for cross border terrorism, but it never showed any proof against Pakistan’s intervention in its affairs.

Addressing a press conference at the Lahore Press Club along with PTI Information Secretary Samsam Bukhari, he said that he was in close contact with all EU parliament members, including Sajjad Kareem, Afzal Khan, Khalid Mehmood and others, over the recent developments in Kashmir.

“My son Anus Sarwar has raised the Kashmir issue in the Scottish Parliament and presented a resolution condemning the Indian aggression in the disputed valley,” Sarwar said. “I’m leaving for Europe and UK after holding thorough consultations with Pakistan-e-Tehreek Insaf Chairman Imran Khan.”

He said the world would soon know about the reality of India, that it was unlawfully oppressing the innocent Kashmiris, besides infringing basic human rights. Peace in this region cannot be achieved without solving the Kashmir issue, he remarked.

On a query, the PTI leader said, “We will also present resolutions in UK and Europe parliaments to condemn the Indian actions in Kashmir as well as plebiscite that will be agreed in all forums. Without substantial doubt, resolutions in EU and UK parliaments will mount significant and imperative pressure on India.”
