KARACHI: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leaders are changing their stance about Altaf Hussain soon after their party chairman Bilawal Bhutto declared founder of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) a ‘political reality’ of Karachi.

On Saturday, PPP’s Coordination Committee head Nisar Ahmed Khuhro who is also senior provincial minister said that minus one formula in politics was unacceptable. “Only people have right to accept or reject their leaders,” he said and avoid question about declaring the MQM founder a traitor.

He said that they recommended to the federal government to address the issue of the MQM founder, according to the Sindh Assembly’s resolution, but the government at centre has not responded yet. It is pertinent to mention here that PPP has already demanded treason trial against Altaf Hussain under Article 6 of the constitution through a unanimously passed resolution at the provincial legislative body.

The resolution was tabled jointly by PPP and other parties including MQM-Pakistan to declare Altaf Hussain a traitor. Khuhro said that Bilawal Bhutto was moving ahead with new determination. He said that they would reorganise the mainstream party and angry activists (of the party) would be incorporated. He said that former president Pervez Musharraf was speaking against democracy and trying to become a politician.

October 16 rally

He said that the Pakistan Muslim League-N government was responsible for granting permission to Musharraf to leave Pakistan. He said that everyone must be included in the mainstream of Pakistan, so the politics of extremism must be rejected. He said that PPP had supported efforts for the restoration of peace in Karachi.

Nisar said that the arrangements of a massive rally on October 16 to be led by Bilawal Bhutto have been finalised. This would be in the memory of martyrs of October 18 – the caravan led by the late Benazir Bhutto. On the occasion, 800 activists led by former Orangi mayor Mohammad Yousuf announced to join PPP along with his colleagues here at a press conference.
