ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested a man from Sahiwal on Monday for allegedly harassing a woman on social media.
An First Investigation Report (FIR) against the accused was lodged under the Prevention of Electronic Crime act (PECA). The accused was arrested and presented in the court by FIA officials. The judicial magistrate granted a three-day remand of the accused to the FIA. The accused has been shifted to Islamabad for further investigation by FIA officials.
The victim submitted a complaint to the FIA Cyber Crime Cell – alleging that she had become friends with the accused through Facebook but the accused later resorted to blackmailing her for money. FIA arrested the accused when he came to collect the money from the complainant.
Earlier, an assistant professor working at Karachi University was also arrested by the FIA for harassing a colleague on the internet. The professor was arrested for setting up fake social media profiles impersonating the victim.
