Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by 263 runs to win the second and final  Test against Sri Lanka played at the national stadium in Karachi.

Set a daunting 476 runs to win Sri Lanka were bowled out for 212. 16-year-old Naseem had the best figures of 5-31. Yasir Shah picked up the key wicket of centurion Oshada Fernando (102). Mohammad Abbas, Shaheen Afridi and Haris Sohail dismissed on batsman apiece.

The series was the first in Pakistan since an attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in 2009, which suspended international cricket in the country. This was Pakistan’s first home win in 13 years. The last Test match that Pakistan won was against the West Indies in 2006.

The Test which was part of the ICC Test Championship, gives Pakistan 80 points and the third spot on the points table. India and Australia are on the first and second spot respectively.

The Islanders were at 97 for five on day four of the Test before Oshada and Niroshan Dickwella halted the slide with a resolute 104-run stand for the sixth wicket.

Notably, Captain Azhar Ali (118) and Babar Azam (100 not out) reached their tons on day four after openers Shan Masood (135) and Abid Ali (174) did so on day three.

The only previous instance of the top four batsmen all scoring a century in a Test innings came when India’s Dinesh Karthik, Wasim Jaffer, Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar all hit tons against Bangladesh in Mirpur in 2007.

That came in the first innings, so Pakistan are the only side to achieve the feat in the second innings of a Test.
