NAB has nothing on me: Durrani

Author: Imdad Ali Khushik

Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani on Friday said that he wouldn’t have been released on bail if the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had any proof of allegations levelled against him.

Talking to journalists at the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar, where he offered Fateha and laid floral wreaths, Durrani said that the NAB cases against him had almost ended, primarily because of lack of evidence.

To a question regarding the court verdict against former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf, he said that he had not studied the case, so he would not be able to comment on it.

He said that the news regarding Musharraf had been aired on TV channels, but he could not hear it, as he was busy in the assembly sessions. However, he commented that the punishment awarded to the former military dictator was in line with the law and constitution.

To another query, he rejected the rumours regarding any deal between the PPP and the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

He said that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would be the next prime minister. He also thanked Bilawal, Asif Ali Zardari, Faryal Talpur and PPP activists who had come there to meet him.

He also thanked the media for presenting the facts in the case, and slammed some other media outlets who wished to mar his reputation.

He said if the NAB could prove anything against him in the cases in which he was arrested, he would have still been behind the bars.

Replying to a question about the political situation in country, he said he was unable to understand which way country was moving.

About accountability in country, he said that his party had also demanded accountability, just like the rest of the people, but what was being done at the moment was not accountability.
