Shikarpur police have foiled an attempt to solemnise nikah ceremony of underage girl and rescued the minor girl, while groom and nikah khawan managed to escape, at Alif Shah area of Shikarpur, in the limits of Lakhi Gate Police Station. According to an official of Lakhi Gate Police Station that following on the information of underage marriage, police carried out raid and succeeded in releasing a minor girl named Sobia, of 12, while groom named Bilawal Banglani, above 30, and nikah khawan managed to escape, however area police shifted the minor girl to Women Complaint Cell Shikarpur and commenced raids to arrest groom and nikah khawan.
Also, the rescued girl would be presented before judicial magistrate for further proceedings.
Neither an FIR was registered nor had the police made any arrests till the filing of this news. It is worthwhile to mention here that Sindh government has introduced a constitutional bill against underage marriage, but such sort of traditional practice is still continued in Sindh mainly Northern areas of Sindh.
