IHC stays new recruitments in chief commissioner’s office

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday issued a stay order on new recruitments against more than 210 vacant posts, in various departments of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration, in a case filed by some old employees of the district departments.

A single member bench of the IHC comprising Justice Athar Minallah resumed the hearing of the case filed by 57 former employees of the ICT administration who were forcibly dismissed from service by the administration.

The counsels for the petitioners, Aamir Nadeem Tabish Advocate, Hafiz Ali Asghar and Hafiz Safeer Khadim appeared before the court.

The affected employees had adopted the stance in their petition that they were working in different departments of the district administration for the last five years but they were dismissed by the Authority without assigning any reason and justification. The petitioners stated that now the ICT administration had announced to recruit new employees against 210 vacant posts of different categories which implies that their rights were being breached.

After hearing the arguments, the court issued a stay order on the new recruitment process in the chief commissioner’s and the deputy commissioner’s office. The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration had invited applications last month, from eligible candidates for more than 210 posts in various departments including the Chief & Deputy Commissioner Offices, the Excise & Taxation Department, the Cooperative Societies Department, the Food Department, the Auqaf Directorate, the District Attorney Office, the Civil Defence, the Rural & Local Govt, Health, Labour Welfare, Industries, Agriculture, Fisheries, Soil Conservation, Livestock & Dairy Developmen as well as the Zakat & Ushr Departments.

The applications were invited against the posts of BPS-1 to BPS 15 that include caretakers, steno-typists, assistants, field supervisors, LDCs, UDCs, dispatch riders, watchmen, moazzans, khadam, process servers, drivers, constables, inspectors, demonstrators, accountants, account clerics, medical assistants, lady health visitors, fisheries research assistants, stock assistants, ward-masters, projectionists, tube well mechanics, laboratory attendants, a draftsman, drivers, vaccinators, sanitary workers, Gardner, and a peon etc.
