LAHORE: The Punjab Health Department has obtained a copy of the book titled ‘Sehat Taleem Se’, prepared by young doctors on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
The 43-page book has been prepared in one year under the supervision of 20 doctors belonging to the Mayo Hospital’s Medicine and Pediatrics Department.
Young Doctors Association (YDA) General Secretary Dr Salman Kazmi told Daily Times that the book contained details of 34 infectious diseases with pictures, their symptoms and suggestions regarding precautionary measures. He said that the government had previously introduced a 17-page book on dengue fever and its precautions, which was insufficient to address the menace of infectious diseases.
Keeping in mind the need to sensitise people on infectious diseases, he said, senior doctors took an initiative to save the lives of innocent citizens, especially children, on the special directions of the government as well as health department. The book was prepared by 20 doctors including Dr Salman Kazmi, Dr Umair Ashfaq, Dr Farhat Abbas, Dr Zameer Mir, Dr Bilal Mehmood, Dr Sarwat Saif, Dr Soaid Zyed, Dr Muhammad Takki, Dr Asad Raza, Dr Sheraz Saddiq and others belonging to the Medicine and Pediatrics Department of Mayo Hospital.
The YDA general secretary said that all senior doctors made this book keeping in view the facts that in last four years 150 peoples have died because of dengue, 230 babies died because of measles, 45 children died due to diphtheria and 10 due to Congo fever, whereas the already existing book made by the Punjab Education Department was not helping the cause.
The book prepared by doctors of Medicine and Pediatrics Department of Mayo hospital would help save thousands of lives in futures by educating the public and schoolchildren about these diseases, he added.
Dr Kazmi said that the final book has been referred to the health department for approval and after completion of legal procedures this book would be imparted to students of class five up to FA (class 12).
