Teenager killed in attack on Karachi Imambargah

KARACHI: A boy was killed and eight other people, including women, sustained injuries when unidentified terrorists hurled a grenade at a Shia gathering in Liaquatabad on Monday.

According to Sharifabad police, a 13-year-old boy identified as Faraz was killed while eight others were injured.

The bombing took place near Dar-e-Abbas Imambargah in Federal Capital Area of Liaquatabad No 4.

The injured have been identified as Syed Nawab, Syed Shamim Raza, Muhammad Raza, Salma, Jamila, Ghausia Haider, Shamim and Faizan. The injured were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

“Two men on a motorcycle hurled an improvised explosive device at an Imambargah in Liaquatabad neighbourhood of Karachi and drove away,” Mushtaq Mehar, Karachi police chief told AFP.

“A women and a child are in critical condition while rest of the injured are stable,” Nadeem Rajput, medical officer of the hospital told AFP.

Many women were at the Imambargah to participate in religious ceremonies during the attack. The police and Rangers reached the spot and cordoned off the area.

Meanwhile, Sindh Governor Dr Ishartul Ebad Khan has expressed deep sorrow over the incident. He ordered the law enforcers to arrest the culprits behind the attack.

The governor also ordered the Health Department to provide best treatment to the injured. The Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen condemned the attack. Sindh Inspector General of Police AD Khawaja has taken notice of the incident and sought a report from the deputy inspector general (west).
