KARACHI: A teenage boy has sustained severe gunshot wound as unidentified people in a vehicle fired bullets at him and abducted the girl walking alongside with him in Karachi, reported on Sunday.
The police termed it a first-of-a-kind case where the kidnappers contacted the family solely through social media, which fuelled police suspicions that kidnappers might have had some “inside help”.
An FIR has been lodged at the Darakhshan Police Station under sections of murder attempt and kidnapping. The FIR stated that Haris, the friend of the abducted girl, told their family that he was going out to meet his friends.
According to police, Bisma was abducted from outside a house in Khayaban-e-Seher on May 11 by four armed men who later contacted the family through social media to demand the ransom. They revealed that she was the daughter of a businessman, and was returning home last weekend after having tea at a roadside restaurant in the area when she was kidnapped on gunpoint. She was driving the car while her driver was in the rear seat at the time of the incident.
The tragic incident took place at Bukhari Commercial, also known as Bara Bukhari in DHA within the limits of Darakhshan Police Station on early Sunday hours. The victim’s male friend namely Haris Soomro wounded in the incident was initially taken to National Medical Center on Korangi Road and later moved to Aga Khan University Hospital.
The police were also looking to record the statements of the families and friends for any possible clues about the abductors.
