ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan former secretary Kunwar Dilshad has termed the step of ECP to randomly scrutinise annual statements of assets and liabilities submitted to it by the lawmakers, a positive development in right direction. While talking to Voice of America (VOA), he said, “It leaves a positive impact. People will think that in this way corruption and embezzlement will be brought to an end. Moreover, the legislators will also be held accountable for their properties outside the country.” “In existing circumstances, ECP can scrutinise assets and liabilities on submission of nomination papers. Nevertheless, ECP can take action under article 218, which allows it to take action for holding free, fair and corruption-free election. The scrutiny of assets is vital to avoid corruption,” he added.
