ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) On Wednesday halted a special court from issuing a ruling in the high treason case against former president Pervez Musharraf.
The IHC order came on a petition filed by the interior ministry which had requested it to set aside the special court’s decision to announce its judgment in the high treason case on November 28.
Accepting interior ministry’s petition, IHC’s larger bench, headed by Chief Justice Athar Minallah, suspended notification of the Special Court.
A three-member judge bench headed by IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah and comprising Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani heard the case.
The bench comprising of Chief Justice Athar Minallah, Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani heard the pleas. The government had filed an application in the Islamabad High Court seeking an order to stop the verdict in the high treason case against former president Pervez Musharraf.
Additional Attorney General (AAG) Sajid Ilyas Bhatti informed the bench about the details of the constitution of the prosecution team in 2013.
The high treason case was filed during the previous Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government.
He was booked in the treason case in December 2013. Musharraf was indicted on March 31, 2014, and the prosecution tabled the entire evidence before the special court in September the same year.
