Young and old come together at drama festival

LAHORE: The 2nd day of drama festival attracted even larger crowds to the Alhamra Cultural Complex as the dramas and puppet show provided them a much-needed fun and entertainment the Lahorites had been yearning for.

Drama Festival is the initiative of the Human Rights and Minorities Affairs Department of Punjab Government and Unique Group of Institutions which is aimed at promoting interfaith harmony, peace and tolerance and the idea has been well taken by the public. The occasion also served as an outlet to the fun-hungry people who have been deprived of such gatherings due to the law and order situation in the recent past.

Secretary Human Rights and Minority Affairs Asim Iqbal was the chief guest on the 2nd day. As many as 12 plays were performed at halls of the Alhmara Cultural complex while the audiences also feasted on sufi music for hours at the amphitheater (Open Air).

The drama festival kicked off yesterday was inaugurated by the Provincial Minister Human Rights and Minorities Affiars Tahir Khalil Sindhu. The Minister believed the conduct of such events would improve Pakistan’s image as a peace loving country and help to restore tolerance in society.

The Provincial Minister lauded the Punjab government and the educational institution which had taken this initiative and shown to the world that Pakistanis are peace-loving nation and believe in basic human rights.

The Minister urged the need to hold more of such activities to break the monotony and send a message of peace and love across the world.

Aiming to highlight a soft image of the country and increase interfaith harmony, peace and tolerance in society, Human Rights and Minorities Affairs department, Punjab government in collaboration with Unique group of institutions presented 12 plays on the first day while Sufi Music Night was held at the amphitheatre (Open Air).

The festival would come to a close tomorrow (Saturday) with Awards Night.
