Ex-PM Gilani back from Cambodia

Author: News Desk

Former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani arrived back from Cambodia on November 21 despite he had two-week permission from the Ministry of Interior to stay out of country.

The PPP leader had flied out of Pakistan to attend an international conference in Cambodia in spite of his name being on the country’s exit control list (ECL). Gillani had departed on Monday to attend the Asia-Pacific Conference in Cambodia, for which he had received an exclusive invitation from Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen.

A corruption case against the former prime minister over allegations of fraudulent trade subsidies worth billions of rupees is pending with court and the government has placed his name on the ECL. Gillani was granted a special permission by the interior ministry to leave the country for a period of 15 days to attend the conference.
