HAVANA: The Colombian government and the Marxist FARC rebels on Saturday resumed dialogues to resume the peace deal – rejected in last month’s referendum.

“The delegates and advisers to government and FARC met in Havana for constructive dialogue to reach peace,” the government-side said on Twitter. “It’s an optimistic atmosphere. Let’s get peace,” the FARC’s negotiator – Timoleon Jimenez (Timochenko) – tweeted. However, both the sides are trying to find common ground, he added.

Santos – who has staked his legacy on making peace – had extended the army’s ceasefire till December 31, which the FARC had criticised at first but then also confirmed its willingness to continue the negotiations and maintain a bilateral ceasefire.
