An Australian baker makes desserts that look like animals

Author: Daily Times Monitor

Vickie Liu is an amateur baker who is popular on Instagram. The Melbourne-based foodie uses bright colours and fun toppings to make animal cookies, doughnuts and cakes from scratch.

Although she has a full-time job, Liu follows her confectionery passions on the side. She sells these creations at local farmers markets and bakeries, like Doughnut Time.

Animal doughnuts are Vickie Liu’s specialty.

She uses chocolate marbling techniques to create beautiful pastel washes.

And she makes simple designs on the pastries that look like animal faces.

Her pastries are colourful. She is inspired by Tiffany blues, raspberry pinks and pretty purple shades. Tiffany Blue is the colloquial name for the light medium robin egg blue colour associated with Tiffany & Co, the New York City jewellery company. The colour was used on the cover of Tiffany’s Blue Book, first published in 1845. She absolutely loves purple.

Even her salted caramel and dark chocolate mud cakes are colourful.

Liu knows what’s up when she goes out to fro-yo. In fact, she is awesome at all things ice cream. The baker studied architecture and interior design in school.

Now she has a full-time, unrelated job and follows her passions on the side. This includes blogging, recipe development, styling and selling her baked goods in Melbourne. You go girl!
