Pakistan to participate in World Taekwondo Junior Championship

ISLAMABAD: A four-member Pakistan squad will be participating in the WTF World Taekwondo Junior Championship scheduled to be held at Burnaby, Canada in November. Pakistan Taekwondo Federation (PTF) President Waseem Ahmed said Monday the championship would be held from November 16 to 20 in Canada. “The four-member team will also be accompanied by a manager and a coach in the event,” he added.

He said the national federation had applied for an NOC from the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) to participate in the championship. “We have also requested for a special grant amounting to Rs one million for the participation in the event,” he said. About the 11the Korean Ambassador Under-15 and Under-17 National Junior (male and female) Taekwondo Championships to be held here at the Pakistan Sports Complex from October 26, he said this would be the biggest junior national event because as more than 450 athletes and officials would participate in it. The championship is being organised by the Korean Embassy. Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Director General Dr. Akthar Nawaz Ganjera has assured full support for the event by providing taekwondo gymnasium, accommodation and other facilities.

“Besides provinces and departments, renowned clubs will also participate in the event. The basic
aim of this tournament is to identify new young talent and polish it for the Olympic qualification round scheduled to be held in early 2020 at Tokyo, Japan,” he concluded.
