LARKANA: Boycotting classes, students of the Bibi Aseefa Dental College (BADC) locked the main gate of the college, and held protest demonstration in front of it here on Monday morning.
They protested against the non-recognition of their college by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC). They chanted slogans against the college administration as well as other authorities. On the other hand, PMDC clearly stated that the registration of 450 students of the Bibi Aseefa Dental College and the Mahar Medical College would not be made.
“These colleges started admissions before getting permissions,” it said. There are 250 affected students of the Bibi Aseefa Dental College (all five batches) and 200 students of the Mahar Medical College (two batches). PMDC held the college authorities and students responsible for this situation.
It is to be noted here that teaching faculties of both the colleges are still incomplete besides other required facilities, while retired doctors have recently been recruited by the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU) of Larkana, bypassing the apex court’s orders.
PMDC President Bashir Lahri told journalists that these students would not be registered because there was a ban on admissions in MMC for the last three years but despite this fact the college authorities gave admissions. Similarly, he said the registration of BADC has not yet been made yet students got admissions hence the responsibility lies with the authorities concerned.
Talking about the fresh application by the SMBBMU authorities for the registration of BADC and allowing admission in MMC, Lahri said that they would send an inspection team but the students would not be registered. BADC Principal Dr Ilyas Shaikh has appealed to the provincial government to get the said five batches of his colleges registered.
SMBBMU Vice Chancellor Prof Ghulam Asghar Channa said that the previous administration was responsible for this situation.
