ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Human Rights Senator Kamran Michael has said that steps have been taken through a comprehensive strategy to improve the human rights situation, adding the incumbent government was committed to ensure equal rights for all citizens in the country.
Presiding over a meeting of National Human Rights Awards Committee in Islamabad on Tuesday, the minister said International Human Rights Day will be celebrate at the national level and his ministry will confer National Human Rights Awards to human rights activists who rendered meritorious services for the realization of human rights, including rights of women, children, minorities and other vulnerable segments of the society.
The awards will be given in seven categories, including Women Rights Award, Child Rights Awards, Minorities Rights Awards, PWDs Award, Media Awards, Protection of Life and Dignity Award. The minister advised the committee that the nominations for the awards should be based on merit.
