As the newest trend in tech, high refresh rate (HRR/120 Hz) displays are rapidly becoming a part of the flagship smartphones market. The trend that first debuted with the Razer Phone, is now expected to feature in the top smartphones.
News of Xiaomi working on a HRR display comes from a leaks expert on Weibo who claims that the company is developing 120Hz OLED smartphone displays that will be ready to ship next year. A screenshot uploaded by XDA developers which showed the refresh rate options found in the MIUI 11 beta also corroborates the claim.
A high refresh rate essentially means the display will be faster. However, it is important to note that a high refresh rate display also requires more battery and processing power to tell the device what to show on the screen faster. A high refresh rate display is also somewhat unnecessary in smartphones, except for a few instances they might help like live video.
