LAHORE: Orange Line Metro Train Project (OMT) Steering Committee Chairman Khawaja Ahmad Hassaan has emphasized adoption of comprehensive security measures to guard the workers from any untoward incident on construction sites.

While chairing the weekly Orange Line Metro Train progress review meeting on Wednesday, he said that contractors should thoroughly verify the credentials of individuals before hiring them for skilled or unskilled labour.

He directed for carrying out body search of individuals going inside the site offices, casting yards and other places associated with the project for this purpose.

“Our soldiers are offering great sacrifices for eliminating terrorism which will never go waste,” he said after offering Fateha for the martyrs of Quetta tragedy.

Hassaan said that Orange Line Metro Train would provide economic, safe and latest mode of transportation to common citizens besides conferring a sense of self-respect upon them.

“This project is not meant only for the people of Lahore or Punjab, it has a national significance as it will set a precedent for commencing more such projects in other cities of the country,” he added.

The metro train system is successfully functioning in 153 cities of the world and start of its operation in Lahore would include the provincial capital in the list of international cities, he maintained.

The chairman also urged the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) and other concerned departments to safeguard their manholes and ensure placemen of covers on them so that fatal incidents could be avoided.

He called upon the utility services departments for constituting mobile teams and directed them to remain present on the spot during the execution of civil works to ensure uninterrupted supply of these services.

He asked for immediate provision of electricity connection for WASA’s lift stations at Lake Road near the PIA Planetarium as well at Lakshmi Chowk.

On the occasion, NESPAK General Manager Slaman Hafeez informed the meeting that about 53 percent civil work of the project has so far been completed including 64 percent on package-one, 44 percent on package-two, 50 percent on depot near Dera Gujran and 49 percent on Stabling Yard near Ali Town.
