MPs ‘concerned’ over push-ups by cricket players

ISLAMABAD: The light hearted matter of push-ups by the national cricket team has reached to the parliament, as a humourless parliamentarian asked the Pakistan Cricket Board who Misbah-ul-Haq was giving a message to by doing his pushups. This was discussed in a meeting of the standing committee of the National Assembly on Inter Provincial Harmony. The meeting was held on Wednesday at Parliament House under the chairmanship of MNA Abdul Qahar Khan Wadan. Federal Minister for Interprovincial Ministry Riaz Hussain Pirzada, Head of PCB’s Executive Committee Najam Sethi and Chief Operating Officer of PCB Subhan Ahmed also attended the meeting.

Najam Sethi told the meeting that the team did push-ups after being physically trained by the army, but later the board said it had forbidden the players from doing pushups in front of the media. However, Misbah did pushups after getting to his century just to show his fitness.

Najam Sethi claimed the PCB had made the national team of Ireland agree to visit Pakistan, but when the prime minister was told about it, he was astonished and said that highups of the board should make decisions after considering the ground realities, as they did not know the ‘inside story’. After a few days, a blast occurred in Karachi. Nawaz Sharif said that due to the security concerns of international players, he did not agree with the PCB’s proposal.
