KARACHI: Naila Waseem, wife of Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar, has demanded the investigation of former president Pervez Musharraf by the joint investigation team (JIT) for his involvement in May 12, 2007, incident.
During a press conference at the Karachi Press Club on Wednesday, Naila said that everyone who has played any role in May 12 incident should be nominated in the case. It is to be noted that Waseem has faced JIT for his alleged involvement in this incident. Naila said that she has submitted a bail appeal for her husband in Dr Asim Hussain’s case.
She also provided the copies of FIR’s lodged against Waseem, which, according to her, clearly shows mala fide intentions of all who have inducted her husband into the incident. “TV channels are airing wrong reports about the cases to tarnish the image of my husband,” she lamented. Till date, no challan or statement has been recorded in the court but private TV channels were airing JIT reports based on false assumptions, she said.
The police arrested Waseem on the statement of a fire officer of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Muhammad Aslam and this was done without receiving any directives from any court, she said. “Muhammad Ilyas, an accused, is a professional witness, who is also involved in May 12 incident, he is being pursued by the police to give witness against Waseem,” she said.
“Nobody was mentioned in the FIR lodged by Ilyas and even in his recorded statement in the court, but later the name of Waseem was inducted,” she claimed. The corrupt police official who was assigned this case on July 25 inducted her husband’s name in cases number 75 and 76 on Ilyas’s designation, Naila said, adding that new cases were also registered against Waseem after his arrest under FIR 74, 75 and 76.
She appealed to the Supreme Court and the Sindh High Court to take action on the matter and exonerate her husband from false cases.
