Eradicating polio

Author: Daily Times

Sir: The World Polio day, observed on the 24th of October every year, is a day to fight the infection of polio. It is a viral disease that may result in permanent disability and is categorised as an endemic viral infection. Unfortunately, Pakistan is one of the few remaining countries in the world where we find children suffering from this viral infection.

Since eradication of polio is among the priorities of the Punjab government, therefore, all efforts are being made to protect future generations of Pakistan from this debilitating disease. Several rounds of vaccination are being given, a process that is being carried out across the province.

No child anywhere in the province should suffer from this completely preventable disease. It is hoped that due to the strenuous efforts by government that day is not far when Pakistan would be declared as a polio free country.
