Sindh CM says PTI has right to hold protest

KARACHI: Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that Pakistan People’s Party-led Sindh government will not block any streets for PTI to stage its protest in the province, a private news channel reported.

While talking to media on Friday, Sindh’s chief minister said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has the right to hold protest. “Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) only believes in the democratic system of governance,” Shah said.

PTI Chief Imran Khan has said that the party’s protest will continue till Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif steps down from office or presents himself for accountability over the Panama Leaks issue. He had also said that the anti-government protest will be historic claiming the participation of one million people in his show of strength in Islamabad, which will be transformed into Tahrir Square.

Islamabad police arrested several PTI workers while they were attending a youth convention at a private marquee on Thursday evening. Chairman PTI urged party workers and supporters to stage a countrywide protest on Friday. The government has placed containers across the federal capital to stop the protesters’ from entering in the city. PPP has also announced a long march on December 27 against the PML-N government if their four demands are not met.

The four demands laid by PPP were: the government appoint a foreign minister, Panama Papers Bill presented by PPP in the parliament should be passed, the suggestions of former president Asif Ali Zardari on China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) presented in All Parties Conference be accepted and the national security committee of the parliament should be constituted.
