ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)on Friday submitted requisition to summon the Senate session to discuss the police crackdown on the Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaf workers.

The requisition has been submitted in Senate Secretariat by PPP Senator Taj Haider under Article 54(3) of the constitution. As many as 28 PPP senators have signed the requisition.

The PPP has given a three-point agenda with the requisition. The party would fight the case of PTI in the Upper House because Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani is bound to summon the session in 14 days.

The PPP wanted to discuss the brutal crackdown on political workers in violation of fundamental rights, intended closure of Islamabad and the violation of orders of Islamabad High Court on 27 October by the government.

Sources said that despite the differences with the PTI, the PPP would raise the issue of arrests and use of force against the workers. Now the ball is in the chairman’s court.
