Jhelum: At least 10 people died on Friday after drinking toxic liquor in Jhelum.
The victims were all residents of Jhelum’s Christian Colony. Most of them were guests who had come to attend a wedding celebration.
The moonshine produced in the colony is sold widely within Jhelum and deaths have also been reported in areas beyond Christian Colony where the alcohol was consumed.
The development comes a day after the Sindh High Court ordered closure of all wine shops across Sindh.
The moonshine usually contains methanol, commonly used in anti-freeze and fuel. Consumption of methanol can lead to blindness, liver damage and death. In 2007, 40 people were killed in Karachi after drinking toxic liquor.
