WASHINGTON: United States has wished to fully cooperate with Pakistan in the investigation of the Quetta police training academy attack which left 62 police officers dead, a private news channel reported on Saturday.

At least 62 police officers lost their lives and more than 100 injured when gunmen wearing suicide vests stormed a Police Training Center in the Balochistan capital. An investigation committee has initiated a probe into the deadly incident after taking weapons and ammunitions, terrorists used in the attack, into their custody from the wreckage of the sprawling academy.

Deputy Spokesman of US State Department Mark Toner – in a press briefing – said that the country is deeply saddened by the attack on the police training centre. He said that investigation of the attack is in initial stages. He added that the responsibility of probing the incident lies with the Pakistani authorities. “It will be premature to say that which elements are behind the attack,” Toner said.

The state department spokesman went on to say Islamic State also known as ‘Daesh’ has started to operate in the different regions of the world. “It is of no surprise that ‘Daesh’ may be operating in Afghanistan,” the spokesman said. Toner said that United States will continue to take actions across the world for targeting the senior leadership of Islamic State.
