PPP demands release of Dr Asim

KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has warned to part its ways with the centre on National Action Plan (NAP) and has once again demanded the release of Dr Asim Hussain, Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has termed the arrest of Dr Asim as political revenge and said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has politicized Karachi operation for his personal interests.

Bilawal Buhtto has surprisingly backed the stand of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Saturday and has said that Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhter and Abdul Qadir Patel are behind bars due to this controversial operation.

On Saturday, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto arrived at city’s Jinnah post graduate medical centre (JPMC) where he met Dr Asim, who is admitted there due to neuro problems.

Talking with the media, Bilawal said that Dr Asim is a political prisoner; he is the only politician who is facing terrorism cases and has remained in Rangers’ custody for 90 days. Asim is under arrest since the last 16 months but we are not afraid of these tactics because we have been facing political cases in the past. PPP chief said that we are the one who brought all political parties on one page for the implementation of National Action Plan (NAP) but now parting ways with the center on Nap is under consideration.

Provincial Advisor for Information Maola Bux Chandio has also demanded the release of Dr Asim and has said that Dr Asim has suffered paralysis attack which is the result of mental torture. In his stament Chandio said that Dr Asim’s spouse is also ill and the law enforcement institutions have not been able to prove any case against Dr Asim; he should be released on priority basis.
