The Lahore High Court, while hearing arguments in a sedition petition filed against Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, on Friday sought tangible proofs against him, a private TV channel reported.

The court sought a copy of transcript of all the speeches deemed seditious by the petitioner to be considered as evidence in the case. A formal investigation in the matter will kick off if the evidence is deemed satisfactory.

The petitioner claimed in his plea that the religious cleric made provocative speeches in a bid to incite the people against the state, adding that the firebrand speeches could become a harbinger of chaos and anarchy in the country. The petition claimed that armed militias were being prepared by Fazlur Rehman to disrupt peace and harmony of the country under the garb of ‘Azadi March’. It demanded a formal sedition inquiry against the opposition leader and also sought a complete ban on his speeches and media appearances.
