FAISALABAD: Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) won the 47th WAPDA Inter-unit Kabaddi Circle Style Tournament here the other day. Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) secured second position while Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) came third in the event.
The three-day event was organised by FESCO Sports Association under the aegis of WAPDA Sports Board. Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) chairman and WAPDA Sports Board patron-in-chief Lt Gen (r) Muzammil Hussain was the chief guest of the prize distribution ceremony. The chairman also announced cash prize of Rs.100,000, Rs.75,000 and Rs.50,000 for GEPCO, MEPCO and FESCO teams respectively. Speaking on the occasion, the WAPDA chairman congratulated the players and the officials of the winning teams. He appreciated the FESCO chief executive officer, the FESCO Sports Association and the WAPDA Sports Board for organising the event in a befitting manner. He also paid homage to the people of Faisalabad, who came to witness the final match in a large number, for their passion and love for sports.
The chairman said that WAPDA, through its Sports Board, had been providing patronage for promotion of sports in the country for more than five decades. “WAPDA will continue to play this role with renewed vigor.”
He said that sports can be employed as an effective tool to combat extremism in the society by engaging the youth in healthy activities through different games.
