ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday dismissed an intra-court appeal seeking elevation of Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif to the rank of field marshal.
A division bench comprising Justice Athar Minallah and Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzaib heard the appeal. During the hearing, the court asked if there was any law under which the army chief can be elevated to the rank of field marshal, the appellant argued that the constitution did not provide ground for it, but cited the example of Field Marshal Ayub Khan from the past. However, the court dismissed the appeal and termed it non-maintainable. The appellant, in his petition, said that General Raheel Sharif should be awarded the title of field marshal for conducting successful Operation Zarb-e-Azb against terrorism.
