Nirobi: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Sindh Director Shahid Hayat has been admitted to a hospital in critical condition in Nairobi, Kenya.
“Hayat is suffering from fever and contracted double pneumonia while on a training course in Kenya, Nairobi,” according to a statement issued by Director FIA Sindh Asim Qaimkhani. “Considering the severity of his condition, Hayat was sedated and put on ventilator to release pressure on his lungs and allow them to heal.” It further stated that Hayat is currently incubated and his prognosis is good. “We expect to hear some more good news in the coming days as some of his reports are awaited,” read the statement. Hayat had been put on a ventilator at the Agha Khan Hospital in Kenya.
Before his appointment as director FIA Sindh, Hayat was serving as the Additional IG Karachi. he was the officer who led the Karachi operation when federal government launched Karachi operation in September 5, 2013. Though Hayat has been accused in the murder case of Mir Murtaza Bhutto, he had been headed the investigations of various high profile cases including the Shahzeb murder case. Following his appointment in FIA, he was also leading the investigation into the fake degrees scandal involving Axact, in Karachi. Hayat graduated from Punjab University and briefly joined the police service in Punjab in 1991 before he started his long stint in the Sindh police.
