The PML-N supremo has written a letter to his brother and party president Shehbaz Sharif regarding party’s stance on the Azadi March. The senior leadership of PML-N met on Saturday at the residence of Shehbaz Sharif to discuss the details of the letter and to craft the strategy for the march keeping in view the directions given by Nawaz Sharif.
Briefing media after the meeting, party’s secretary general Ahsan Iqbal said Shehbaz Sharif read the letter in detail in the meeting that contains a complete roadmap for the PML-N. “Nawaz Sharif directed us to craft the strategy for the march in light of the letter and asked to take Maulana into confidence before making it public,” he said. “We’ll meet Maulana with the letter to finalise the roadmap of the march as our leader has instructed us to do so,” he added.
Iqbal said Nawaz Sharif is agreed on the Azadi March and he also wants PML-N to play its role in it. When asked why he is reluctant to share the letter with the media, Ahsan Iqbal said his leader has instructed him to first discuss the letter with Maulana before sharing it with the media. He was of the view that the Azadi March will be led by Maulana himself because it is the JUI-F’s own initiative and PML-N will participate following the directions given by Nawaz Sharif.
When asked if there are two different opinions within the party to join the march, Ahsan Iqbal said that everyone has the right to have different opinion in the party but the final decision rests with Nawaz Sharif. “It isn’t true that there is any grouping in the party as there is no difference in the PML-N at all. The PML-N’s ideology is Nawaz Sharif and everyone follows him,” he added. He was of the view that Shehbaz Sharif became the party’s president with the confidence of Nawaz Sharif and the general council of the party and he will remain the president of PML-N and all the rumors regarding the differences in the party are baseless.
The meeting was attended by senior leadership of PML-N including Rana Tanveer, Malik Pervaiz, Maryam Aurangzeb, Azma Bukhari, Attaullah Tarrar, Rana Mashhood and Lt General (r) Abdul Qadir Baloch.
