KARACHI: The Sindh High Court was informed on Thursday that former provincial police Chief Ghulam Haider Jamali misused his powers, made unlawful appointments and allowed illegal withdrawal of salaries, causing millions of rupees loss to the national exchequer.

The National Accountability Bureau submitted its response to a division bench of SHC which was hearing the bail petition of the former IG. The bench headed by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto which directed the Nazir of the court to return the surety to Mr Jamali which he had furnished before leaving the country to perform Hajj. The court put off the matter until December 05.

The NAB’s counsel told the judges that Jamali had constituted a committee to recruit constables. The committee headed by SP Ghulam Nabi Keerio made recruitments, which were later legitimized by him without inquiring into the process of recruitments. The NAB counsel stated that Jamali was not being harassed by the NAB, nor was the inquiry initiated against him with aim to persecute him.
