A primary teacher named Naveed Umar, resident of Jumo Agham village, near Ratodero, tried to commit self-immolation in Jinnah Bagh on Saturday in protest against the menace of moneylenders who have allegedly ruined his life.

Journalists and policemen who were on duty saved his life by preventing him for killing himself. Later, he told newsmen that in 2016 he obtained money from moneylenders for marriage of his sister and has so far paid them Rs 3.9 million which is much more than what I was paid. Even after paying them so much money they were still demanding Rs 2.7 million more which is the height of injustice, he said.

My mother and sister took the Holy Quran to them, but they are constantly harassing me, issuing life threats and implicating me in fake cases, which has made my life and that of my family extremely miserable, Umar said. He appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Sindh Deputy Inspector General of Police Irfan Baloch and Senior Superintendent of Police Masood Bangash, Larkana, to take notice of the issue and save him from the habitual moneylenders and provide protection to him and his family.
