Fajar Rehan Women discrimination

Author:

Women? Who are they? Humans? Really? Do they have rights? Are they respected? So many well heard of but unanswerable questions! Well, ‘rights they have’, as established by the UN in 1979. But the irksome part is, are these rights actually given? Woefully that’s not what our society thinks and sadly, we are still stuck in the age old stereotypes so smoothly transferred to us by our ancestors.

The fact of the matter is that, living in the 21st century is extremely laborious, especially for women. They have to go through a new obstacle every single day. In some households they are forced to stay home and serve their families and if they want to use their knowledge rigorously, they are usually compelled from that privilege. They have a target on their backs at all times, if they go out in public people are constantly eyeing on them which is just disgusting to even think about. Therefore our society should quit doing this and rather start brooding over ways to empower women.

Meghan Markle, a very well heard name in today’s world. She became a women advocate just at the age of eleven. More than two decades ago, she was watching TV in elementary school with her classmates. When a dish washing commercial popped up on the screen. The tagline sparked her attention, it claimed, “Women all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans”. Immediately after that, two of the boys from her class exclaimed, “Yeah that’s where they belong…..in the kitchen.” That was an eye-opener for her, she knew that this wasn’t right and she felt the urge to do something about it. She wrote multiple letters to the then US’s first lady, Hillary Clinton at that time and even to the soap manufacturing company. Soon after, she received encouragement letters and eventually the soap manufactures changed the tagline to “People all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans”. She then realized that, at the age of eleven she took it up in arms and proved her mettle as one of the most ardent supporters of women empowerment.

Women and men should be treated equally in today’s world, one should not be considered superior over the other as gender equality is very important and can bring about immense change. It could be the beginning of a new and centralized wayof living if well thought-out laws for men and women are implemented.
