We all need to kick start the day with something that would bring about instant refreshment; some ought to begin their mornings with a strong cup of coffee while some prefer tea without which becoming alert and refreshed is near to impossible.
You need something that ‘refreshes your mouth and mind’! For some, gum like Trident may do the trick. Here’s what you need in a day to refresh yourself:
Don’t snooze – there was an illustrated joke once that demonstrated a realistic person versus a pessimist in which the pessimist was shown setting the alarm for 7am while the realistic person set several alarms and relied on hitting snooze multiple times. Contrary to this joke, one has to set rules as far as maintaining a good routine is concerned. When you delay waking up, you’re actually setting up grounds to remain demotivated and lazy throughout the day. Satiate your sleep cycle by picking up a time that lets you wake up alert and active so that you don’t end up initiating your morning routine in a rush.
Don’t miss out on breakfast – rest assured that breakfast is the most important meal of the day! It supplies vital nutrients to your brain needed for optimal functioning; most breakfast foods contain calcium, iron, protein, fibre, and B vitamins. If these essential nutrients are missed out at breakfast, chances are they might not be compensated later in the day. Thus, breakfast is the fuel without which you cannot operate properly.
Chew away – chewing sugar free gum is known to increase the flow of saliva; this helps reduce plaque acid and also tooth decay, thereby strengthening your teeth. Keeping Trident handy which itself is a sugar free gum is a great idea so as to keep yourself refreshed and alert. It is now available in Pakistan in four flavours, namely Spearmint, Peppermint, Strawberry, and Watermelon. So whether you prefer fruit flavours or mint flavours, there are good options to choose from. Experiments have proved that people who chew gum are perceived to be nonchalant and approachable as opposed to those who don’t.
Laugh and smile – every time you laugh and giggle your brain releases hormones called endorphins which are produced by the central nervous system and the pituitary gland and induce feelings of pleasure. Endorphins also boost the immune system and reduce the risk of depression.
Stay hydrated – did you know that the most common reason for feeling tired is that you may be dehydrated? Less water in your body means less oxygen circulating in your system. Not many people are aware of this fact! Why restrict yourself to just eight glasses of water? The consumption is all dependent on your day’s routine and activities. So drink as much as quenches your thirst and refresh yourself. Emphasise on exercising – if you are not accustomed to maintaining a healthy exercise routine you’re not doing any good to yourself. In order to feel refreshed and energized, exercise should be an intrinsic part of your day as it helps reduce stress and decrease cholesterol levels. Give yourself 30 minutes each day and you will notice a significant difference.
Stop slouching – remember the time when your mother or teacher would scold you for slouching and not maintaining an upright posture? That will help you in your life for years to come, for whenever you would slouch in your school or office chair, you will remember those words. It has been ascertained that when you slouch, your ribs get compressed which eventually make it difficult for your lungs to expand; this reduces the amount of oxygen flowing to your brain. This might make you less alert and less active. So giving up on slouching is yet another refreshing habit.
Take a cold shower – although one must have the temperature under control so as not to catch cold, especially in winter, it’s good have a cold shower to have your internal clock ticking energetically. It not only refines hair and skin but also stimulates weight loss, not to mention the much need depression relief for people suffering from depression.
Draw those curtains – sunlight is very essential for having an active start of the day as it directly affects the activity in our brain. If you still however prefer working in a dark room with curtains or blinds still on you will still be in a sleep state where your brain is hindering you from working actively. Bright light makes our brain waves function at higher frequencies and triggers neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine which are compounds that transmit signals between nerve cells.
