MARDAN: District Nazim Mardan, Himayatullah Mayar on Sunday strongly criticized provincial government and Irrigation department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for decreasing the irrigation water from the main upper Swat canal for Mardan district.
Talking to newsmen, Himayatullah Mayar said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders in the name of justice staging sit-in and protest rallies in the country while on the other side PTI led provincial government in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has started injustice with Mardan district.
He added that when PTI government came in power they stopped and cut funds for the projects started in the previous government in Mardan and now they deceased the irrigation water of Mardan distract.
Himayatullah Mayar added that official of Irrigation Sub Division Mardan wrote him a letter in which the official stated that the gauge at Munda Head Works was physically checked by Sub Divisional officer, Mardan Irrigation Sub Division which was much below than our due share.
“Later on SDO Irrigation Mardan sub division contacted the SDO Tangi Irrigation sub division, Mohammad Sadique and complained him for not providing due share of water of Mardan district in the main lower Swat canal”, they stated in the letter.
Himayatullah Mayar said that the officers mentioned in the letter that due share of irrigation water of Mardan district in the main lower Swat canal is RD. 8500 which is 885 Cs, however only 645 Cs discharge is providing to Mardan irrigation division Mardan.
Himaytullah Mayar added that the SDO Tangi sub division told that the balance water is provided to Doaba canal. “In such draught weather condition the irrigation departments Mardan is not capable to provide water to the standing crops in the district”, Himaytullah Mayar added. “Due to the shortage of irrigation water the farmers are facing a lot of problems” Himaytullah said, adding that this cruel act and injustice of the provincial government will create law and order situation in the district.
