Khasadar killed, three FC men injured in Khyber

KHYBER AGENCY: A Khasadar personnel was killed and three Frontier Corp (FC) soldiers were injured when unidentified militants attacked a security checkpost in Jamrud, Khyber Agency.

Jamrud Assistant Political Agent (APA) Ziaurrehman Marwat told Daily Times that the attack occurred on Saturday night.

“Last night, between 09:30 pm to 10 pm, unidentified people, equipped with heavy and sophisticated weapons, attacked the Takhta Baig checkpost. A Khasadar force personnel was killed and three FC soldiers were wounded. When the security forces retaliated, the militants fled,” he said.

Following the attack, reinforcements were sent to the checkpoint. The security personnel cordoned off the area and took the injured to the nearest health centre.

The deceased Khasadar was identified as Shahid Khan who was laid to rest on Sunday morning in his ancestral graveyard in Jaba village of Jamrud tehsil.

On Sunday, the security forces imposed a curfew and launched a massive search operation in Jamrud.

Marwat said that two high-profile militant commanders had been arrested.

“The militants were arrested in the combined operation carried out by the security forces and the administration. A huge quantity of explosive and arms were also seized during the search operation. The weapons and ammunition have been taken to the Fort Slope, Bara, where they will be displayed before the media,” officials said.

Due to the security operation, traffic on the Pak-Afghan highway remained suspended for more than seven hours.
