Lead academic castigates Trump, predicts tight win for Hillary

NEW YORK: A leading American political scientist has denounced Republican candidate Donald Trump for casting doubts on the results of November 8 presidential elections. “Trump not accepting the outcome of the election. To me of all the dangerous things that he’s said, right? And I know this is not a partisan place. That is probably the most dangerous thing that he’s said the entire election cycle,” Dr Christina Greer of Fordham University told foreign journalists.

The briefing was arranged by the New York Foreign Press Center, ahead of the presidential election that gripped the entire world. Dr Greer predicted that Hillary Clinton would secure victory after the results poured in late Tuesday evening. “So the political scientist in me, political science professor in me, the one who has a PhD from Columbia University, the one who’s written books, says that 270 seats are possible for Hillary Clinton. And I think she will be victorious tomorrow evening,” she observed.

Referring to Mr Trump’s statements that he might not accept the election results, she said the founding principle of American democracy was holding free and fair elections and peaceful transition of power. She referred to the 2000 presidential election when the Democratic candidate Al Gore accepted the results despite winning the popular vote. He respected and accepted the decision of the electoral college. The matter had been taken to the Supreme Court, which declared George Bush a winner, but observed that it would never follow that precedent again.

“Al Gore says I’ll accept it. For the good of the nation I will acquiesce and let George Bush become president. It was razor thin,” she recalled. She agreed that Latino voters would play a decisive and important role in determining the fate of the two candidates. “If the Democratic nominee wins, there are going to be three groups who had a hand in her victory. African-Americans, women and Latinos. And I think the quiet group that no one’s really paying attention to, Asian-Americans. In most of our polling, we don’t ever ask about Asian Americans. We just ignore them in our polling which is highly problematic.”

She said the migration patterns of Latinos had moved from beyond just the sun-belt region. Over the years they had moved beyond Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California. “We’re now seeing strong Latino populations in north-eastern cities, along the East Coast.”

Meanwhile, a pro-life pastor urged voters to vote for Mr Trump who he believed was necessary to “clean up America.” “We need somebody to clean up America. We are in trouble. Donald Trump kind of reminds me of Clint Eastwood movies – Dirty Harry. Trump is a sheriff coming to Washington DC to drain the swamp,” Rev. Clenard Childress said. He said the African-Americans were decimated by the Democratic Party due to pro-abortion policies of Obama administration. He asserted the policy had a “genocide impact” on unborn black babies. Another black pastor, Darrell Scott, went on saying that Mr Trump might be sent by God to reduce America’s involvement in the Middle Eastern conflicts.
