LAHORE: The Punjab government has transferred a heavy amount of Rs 5 billions, allocated as development funds for health and education sectors, to fulfil the enhancing budget of Orang Line Metro Train (OMT).
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader and opposition legislator Dr Murad Rass on Tuesday filed an adjournment motion regarding the issue in the Punjab Assembly. In the motion, the opposition member, giving reference of a news story about the usage of health and education sectors’ funds, said such money was transferred to OMT project as a loan.
Dr Rass alleged that the Punjab government had already borrowed a huge amount as loan from a Chinese bank and Bank of Punjab to fulfil the enhancing budget of OMT. “And now, to get more money for the elephant project, the Finance Department has released Rs 5 billion from the development funds of health and education departments.
He further stated that the provincial finance ministry also took a special permission in this regard from Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. The opposition member demanded Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Iqbal Khan to hold a debate on the matter and expressed hope that his adjournment motion would be taken up in the upcoming session of the Punjab Assembly.
